Sports days have happened, SATS have been taken and schools has finished for 2014-15 and the summer is here!
The Learning Support Centre, provides specialist dyslexia and disability support services, which includes one to one specialist tuition, coaching, mentoring, note taking, life skills, transcription services, assistive technology training and are this year’s winner of the 2015 Leicester Mercury Service Award.
Ed’s Club is our inclusive summer school aimed to enhance literacy and creative thinking skills for children aged from 7 to 12 years old. This summer we are delivering the Ruth Miskin’s Literacy Programme, Philosophy for children and we are pleased to be joining forces with Sublime Science. These courses are based on developing children’s skills and strategies to support with their school, homework and educational development.
Ruth Miskin’s literacy programme facilitates your child with the tools to develop their reading level, by improving reading comprehension, creative writing skills and self-esteem. Sessions will be based on phonics, literacy, language and spelling. Using Readwrite inc resources developed by Ruth Miskin, which are widely used in school and in line with the National Curriculum.
The course cost is £80 and the sessions will be delivered every Wednesday from the 29th July- 19th August.
Philosophy for children (P4C) is a fun and interesting way to boost analytical and critical thinking skills. It will allow your child to share ideas and challenge their own and each other’s opinions and perceptions in a supportive group environment. It can increase their confidence and develop their speaking and listening skills. In each session children will be encouraged to think creatively and develop their reasoning skills, using pictures, objects and stories as a stimulus.
The course cost is £60 and the sessions will be delivered every Thursday from the 6th-20th August.
Sublime Science is an award winning team that present an exciting workshop. The one hour fun packed session includes;
- Fizzing Potions, Bubbles and Flying Giant Smoke Rings
- Wacky Noise and Air Experiments
- Gooey Slime-Making (which you can take away with you)
- Yummy Sweet Making (which you can eat) as well as tornado racing and other experiments too.
- Tornado Races, Flying Stuff and other crazy experiments!
Sublime Science will be delivering one hour sessions for £20 on Friday the 31st July and 21st August.
*Some of our partner schools are using Pupil Premium to fund places on our Ed’s club courses for children they identify as requiring additional literacy tuition over the summer.
