Do you require a Specialist ASC Tutor and Mentor at University?

“What would happen if the autism gene was eliminated from the gene pool? You would have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing and not getting anything done.” Dr. Temple Grandin

We have seen an increased demand for support for students with Autism Spectrum Conditions. The Learning Support Centre (LSC) already has a wealth of experience and skills within support and education, therefore, in preparation for next academic year and to meet this demand, we have invested in developing a group of existing team members who have the experience and passion to support our autistic students. This has included training from our in-house autism specialist and the National Autistic Society.

We would like to introduce our some of our Autism Specialist Support team.

Our team can offer specialist autism mentoring and study skills support face to face in Leicester, Birmingham and York, and can support students online nationally.

We get a lot of parents contacting us to ensure their son or daughter’s support gets off to a smooth start, and we listen to their input and will liaise with parents and Disability Advisors with our student’s permission to support their transition to university life.

We make sure we use our students preferred method of contact from day one, have a routine that suits them, and we provide tailored support to the individual. We provide students with a profile and picture of their tutor and or mentor before they meet so the student knows who will be supporting them.

A lot of our students have come straight from college where support may be in class, or in a group, and they may not be used to arranging their own 1-2-1 support. Students may have also had the same person supporting them for a long time and may have concerns about starting again with someone new. It is important to get things right from the start with no assumptions and a positive approach.

All our ASC team are passionate about their work and enjoy meeting creative and interesting people daily, on a wide range of courses, with different challenges. If you are looking to study at University or College and want to find out more about the support, we can offer email info@learningsupportcentre.com
