2015 DMU Disability Awareness Event in recognition of International Day of Disabled Persons
‘Path to Gold’ by Marc Woods, Paralympian
Wednesday 9 December 2015
Hugh Aston Building, De Montfort University
Marc was diagnosed with bone cancer at 17 years and consequently had his left leg amputated below the knee. Not knowing whether he had six months or 60 years left to live, he was determined to make the most of whatever time he did have. Marc has done just that, becoming a member of Great Britain’s Paralympic Swimming Team, a multiple Gold Medallist, BBC commentator and author.
Marc’s strong passion for life translates into a moving and motivating experience and his talk ‘Path to Gold’ incorporates the themes of motivation, teamwork, leadership and communication skills. His talk follows him on his journey from taking personal responsibility to working within a small team, through to enthusing the broader support team.
His talk will start at 6pm and Marc will speak for approximately 45 minutes, allowing for audience questions and answers at the end. Refreshments will be available from 5.30pm, and following the talk there will be a drinks reception in the Hugh Aston Atrium.
