Overall purpose of role​:

As a Study Support Coach, you will provide one-to-one study skills coaching for NHS trainee doctors and dentists, helping them progress in their training. Support may include neurodiversity-informed strategies, exam preparation, and workplace-specific approaches.​

You will understand Specific Learning Differences (SpLD’s including Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, dyscalculia, Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia) and experience supporting neurodiverse clients in education and/or the workplace. ​​

You will work with trainees across all specialties in hospital and GP settings, empowering them to develop independent learning strategies and signposting additional support where needed.

Main duties and responsibilities​:

  • Provide one to one coaching to clients enabling them to develop independent learning strategies to enable them to progress to the next level of training​
  • To be able to adapt approach according to the changing needs of the individual you are supporting whilst working within the Learning Support Centre’s Quality Assurance Framework​
  • Stay up to date with the technology available to support successful study skills strategies in relation to exam preparation and time management.​
  • Support and advise the trainees on Access to Work applications, where applicable​
  • Deliver​support according to The Learning Support Centre guidelines and code of conduct to ensure coaching is delivered effectively​
  • A flexible approach to working hours is required. Occasional travel may also be required​
  • Complete session summary with the workplan for each trainee​
  • Attend any relevant training or meetings and can develop existing skills​
  • Always be punctual​​
  • Manage paperwork effectively, i.e., completing time sheets, monthly caseload report​and trainee workplans accurately and promptly ​
  • Maintain a high standard of presentation whilst representing​The Learning Support Centre​
  • If you cannot make a session, you must​advise​the trainee as soon as possible​
  • Confidentiality should be respected to agreed disclosure levels​
  • Ensure that clients are happy with the support being provided, any problems must be referred to your manager​immediately.​
  • Inform The Learning Support Centre of any problems you are having that are either work related or effect your work, we can then help you come to a satisfactory conclusion or adapt your work to support your situation​
  • You will be expected to represent The Learning Support Centre in a professional and service orientated manner. This includes adhering to our stringent policies including those on confidentiality and safeguarding ​
  • Actively managing personal development in agreement with the Manager​
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by The Learning Support Centre Ltd.
